Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's basketball team fell in overtime to St. Lawrence University, 55-52 in Liberty League action at the Williamson Sports Center on Tuesday night.

The Thoroughbreds fall to 11-4 overall and 4-2 in league play, while the Saints improve their record to 12-4 overall and remain unbeaten in Liberty League action at 8-0.

Both teams struggled shooting in the first half with the hosts holding an 18-12 lead at the break.  In the second half, the offenses started to click for both teams.  Skidmore saw its biggest lead of the game at 21-12 after a Jessie Kavana three-pointer to open the second half, but St. Lawrence was able to steadily chip away as the Saints grabbed their first lead of the second half on a Kara McDuffee lay-up with 6:19 remaining at 38-37.

With three minutes remaining, Logan Frederick made a pair of free throws to give the Thoroughbreds a one point lead before Casey Capello answered back with a three for St. Lawrence, giving the visitors a 45-43 lead.  With less than 30 seconds remaining, Kavana stripped the ball and drew a foul on a fast break, making both free throws to tie it up with 23 seconds remaining.  Both teams had a shot in the final 23 seconds but were unable to convert, sending the game to overtime. Over the final 5:04 of the second half, there were five lead changes and three ties.

In the extra period, the teams traded a pair of baskets before St. Lawrence took the lead for good on a Kelly Legg layup.  Skidmore was never able to get closer than two for the remainder of the game before being forced to foul down the stretch.  Legg hit the front end of a one and one to push the lead to three before missing the second with six seconds left, giving the Thoroughbreds a desperation look that didn't fall.

Kavana finished with a game-high 14 for Skidmore.  Frederick tallied a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, while Megan Gaugler had nine points and 10 rebounds.

For the Saints, Iris Santoni led the way with 13 points and Legg had 10 points and eight rebounds.  Katie Abramski chipped in with 10 off the bench.

The Thoroughbreds return to action on Friday at Union for a 6 p.m. tip.
