Rochester Off To Best Start Ever Following Big Win Vs. CMU

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The University of Rochester is off to its best start in school history after a one-sided 74-29 victory over visiting Carnegie Mellon University at the Louis Alexander Palestra.

Rochester is 16-0 overall, 5-0 in the University Athletic Association. The Yellowjackets started both the 2003-04 and 2008-09 seasons at 15-0 before suffering a defeat. Carnegie Mellon is 6-10 overall, 0-5 UAA. 

The Yellowjackets asserted themselves with a 22-2 run over the last eight minutes of the first half after a sloppy beginning. Rochester hit five three-pointers in the spurt – three by Ally Zywicki, one each by Kristyn Wright and Laney Ming. The burst gave Rochester a 35-13 lead at halftime.

In the second half, the Yellowjackets hit 52% from the floor overall with reserves playing the final 12 minutes. Zywicki led all scorers with 12 points in 12 minutes. She was 4-4 outside the arc. Amy Woods had nine points for Rochester. Jodie Luther, Jackie Walker, and Wright each scored eight points.

Jacquie Shaw and Elissa Goldner had eight points each for Carnegie Mellon. Jennifer Larsen had three assists for the Tartans along with two blocked shots. CMU couldn't get its offense untracked in the second half, hitting 4 of 29 from the floor (14%).
