ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.— Heading into the second half, the Elizabethtown College women's basketball team trailed Alvernia by seven points after a fairly even 20 minutes. What transpired in the second half was an an all-around onslaught from E-town, as four Blue Jays scored double figures and the team held Alvernia to 13 points in a 72-53 Commonwealth Conference victory at Thompson Gymnasium.

Stephanie Ellwood, who was five-for-six from three point range, was the catalyst to Elizabethtown's (11-5, 4-2 CC) strong second half perforamce. Ellwood finished the day with 17 points and six rebounds. Nadine Yunginger, who turned up the heat in the final twenty minutes, put up 15 points and added six helpers. The biggest first half contributer, Kendra Beittel, scored 14 points, while also contributing three assists, and was 5-of-6 at the free throw line. Taylor Alwine continues to be a strong presence on the floor. One of, if not, Yvonne Kauffman's top reserves, Alwine dropped 12 points, pulled down six rebounds and took advantage of foul shooting opportunities by putting away six of seven attempts.

The first half was a roller coaster of runs that saw E-town on the wrong side at the end of the half. Beittel spread her skills across the court, hitting shots from the paint, outside the lane and beyond the arc.  Beittel's output added nine points to the Jays' total in the first. She also had a hand in E-town's seven first half steals, taking two of those. Ellwood's long-range game continues to spark the offense at the right times. Ellwood was 2-for-2 behind the three-point line in the first half.

Alvernia's (7-8, 2-4 CC) fist half offensive play hinged on 17 points from senior Angela Altemose, who was fresh off a 30-point performance this past Wednesday. Her teammate Allie Toczylowski was nearing double-double range after an eight-point, seven-rebound first.
All indications of a tight game were squandered in the second. After reliquishing their late first half lead, due, in part, to some foull trouble, the Blue Jays fought back from the 40-33 Alvernia lead right out of the gate. E-town dominated its home court, holding the Crusaders to just six points in the first seven minutes, while rattling off 18 points of its own to stamp its name on the lead.

The Jays stayed true to their game until the final buzzer. Alvernia scored just 13 points, less then their leading scorer's total in the first half, while the Blue and Gray flashed 39 points on to the scoreboard. Yunginger, Ellwood and Alwine upped their games from the first half, while Beittel carried over her strong first half play.

Alvernia's Altemose led her team with a double-double: 22 points and 12 rebounds.

The Jays 72 point-game is their second highest point total this season. With the offense firing on all cylinders, Elizabethtown will head to Williamsport on Wednesday to face Lycoming. The Jays, now 4-2 in the Commonwealth Conference, have yet to see defeat in conference play on the road this season.
