The Carthage College women's basketball team (13-4, 4-2 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin), ranked 28th in the Jan. 17 "D3hoops.com" poll and tied for 31st place in the Jan. 17 Women's Basketball Coaches Association/USA Today/ESPN NCAA Division III poll, snapped a two-game losing streak on Saturday, Jan. 21 with a 75-52 win over CCIW-opponent Augustana College (Ill., 9-8, 1-5 CCIW) at the Roy J. Carver Center in Rock Island, Ill. 

Carthage has now won 14 in a row over Augustana (Ill.) since the Vikings won a 76-66 decision on Jan. 29, 2005 at the Roy J. Carver Center.  Carthage remains in a third-place tie in the CCIW with Wheaton College (Ill.) at 4-2 each, both two games behind first-place Illinois Wesleyan University at 6-0 and one back of second-place Elmhurst College with a 5-1 mark.

Augustana broke a 14-14 tie and took a 16-14 lead at 8:05 first half.  With the score tied at 18-18, the Lady Reds scored six unanswered points to take an six-point lead, 24-18, at 4:40.  Carthage was leading by four, 25-21, at 3:39 before Augustana came back to tie the game, 25-25, at halftime.  The Lady Reds broke the game wide open with a 19-2 run at the start of the second half to take a 17-point lead, 44-27, at 13:45.  The lead went to 22 points, 52-30, at 11:38, and Carthage led by as much as 26 points, 75-49, with 24 seconds remaining.  The Lady Reds went on to win by 23, 75-52

Carthage shot 50 percent (30-60), including five-of-18 from three-point range, while Augustana shot just 26 percent (14-55), including four-of-26 three pointers.  The Lady Reds blistered the nets in the second half, shooting 69 percent (20-29) after connecting at just a 32 percent clip in the first period (10-31).  Carthage converted 10-of-15 free throws, while Augustana went 20-of-26 from the charity stripe.  The Lady Reds enjoyed a whopping, 47-31 rebounding edge over the Vikings. 

Carthage's Diana Jacklin (Sr., Berwyn, Ill./Morton West) scored a game-high 23 points on 10-of-15 field goals and three-of-four free throws, along with seven rebounds and three assists.  Cailee Corcoran (Jr., Oak Lawn, Ill./Chicago-Marist) added 13 points on five-of-eight shooting and three-of-five free throws, along with a game-high eight boards.  Natalie Runge paced Augustana with 17 points on four-of-four field goals and nine-of-10 free throws.

Carthage plays host to CCIW-opponent Elmhurst College (14-3, 5-1 CCIW) on Wednesday, Jan. 25 in a 7:30 p.m. game at Tarble Arena in Kenosha, Wis.
