Wheaton (Ill.) tops North Park WBB team, 48-36

Chicago, Ill. – The Wheaton Thunder women's basketball team earned a 48-36 victory against North Park on Saturday afternoon. Wheaton has now won four games in a row to improve to 11-6 this season, with a 4-2 record in conference play. The Thunder will remain on the road Wednesday night for a 7:30 PM tipoff at Augustana.

The Vikings jumped out to an 11-4 lead over the first seven minutes of the game. The Thunder closed out the first half with a 14-2 scoring run over the final eight minutes of the opening half to allow the guests to hold an 18-13 edge at halftime.

North Park scored the first basket of the second half to trim Wheaton's lead to a three-point edge at 18-15, just one minute into the half. However, Wheaton responded with a 9-2 run to take a 27-17 lead with 13:20 left in the game. From that point on the Vikings were unable to get any closer than a five-point deficit and Wheaton's 12-point edge in the 48-36 final scored tied the largest lead of the night for the 'Orange and Blue.' 

Junior guard Brooke Olson led the Thunder with 13 points and six steals. Jennifer Lee came off the Thunder bench to contribute 10 points and Brenna Bohlen scored nine points. Senior forward Elisabeth Potts scored seven points, with five rebounds and three steals. Sophomore center Maris Hovee grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, with four blocked shots and five points.

Roxanne Jones and Dana Christensen each scored 11 points to lead North Park. Jones grabbed eight rebounds and Christensen added seven caroms for the hosts.

Wheaton recorded a 29.5% (13-44) field goal percentage, with 60% (6-10) from three-point range and 64% (16-25) at the free throw line. The Vikings shot 31.3% (15-48) from the field, with 29.4% (5-17) from behind the three-point arc and 25% (1-4) at the charity stripe. North Park out-rebounded the Thunder 38-34, with a 7-6 edge on the offensive glass for the hosts.
