ASTON, Pa. - The Rosemont college women's basketball team kept pace with the home Neumann University Knights for the first half, featuring seven ties and two lead changes. But the Ravens were outscored 41-29 in the second half to seal the deal for the Knights. The loss drops Rosemont's record to 7-9 (3-7 CSAC) while Neumann improved to 8-9 (7-2 CSAC).
In the second half of the game the Ravens trailed 35-33 with 16:31 left when the Knights put together a 10-1 run in a span of less than four minutes to give them breathing room at 45-34. The Ravens trimmed the Knight's lead to 56-51 with 4:27 left when the home side pulled away for the 17-point victory.
The most telling statistic is that the Ravens ended up shooting only 27.8% from the field compared to Neumann's 47.4%. Rosemont also could not sink a three-pointer, going 0-for-9 in the game. Neumann shot 5-for-18 from downtown.
Individually Liz Coyne (Fr./Downingtown West/West Chester, Pa.) led all scorers with 28 points. Coyne's 14 rebounds earned her fifth double-double of the season. Ashley Montecchio (Jr./Sun Valley/Aston, Pa.) added 14 for the Ravens. Nymira Nelson (Fr./Archbishop Ryan/Philadelphia) reeled in 11 off the glass in a strong performance in the paint.
The Knights posted four players in double-figures; Brittany Wood (13), Cecily Scavicchio (12), Erica Marvel (11) and Bethany Humenik (10). Sami Borcky had 10 rebounds for Neumann.
The Ravens return home in their next game to meet the Marywood University Pacers on Wednesday, 1/25 at 7:00pm in a CSAC contest.
