WAYNE, N.J. – Four Pioneers were in double figures and 12 of 13 players got into the scoring column as the No. 8/9 William Paterson women's basketball team (17-1, 7-1 NJAC) easily dispatched Rutgers-Camden (11-6, 2-5 NJAC), 87-47, Jan. 21.

 

The Division III leader in double-doubles with 14, senior all-American forward April Smith (Barnegat, N.J./Southern Regional) had game bests of 16 points and 13 rebounds in just 27 minutes of action, shooting 7-for-12 (.583) from the floor.  Sophomore guard Floriana Borova (Cresskill, N.J./Cresskill) contributed 12 tallies and a game-high six assists, while junior guard Kierra Walker (Pleasantville, N.J./Pleasantville) scored a career-best 12 points off the bench.  Senior all-American guard BriAnna Lucas (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham) rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points in 22 minutes, chipping in four steals.

 

The Pioneers held Rutgers-Camden without a field goal for 8:17 during the first half, turning a 16-9 lead with 11:09 on the clock into a 36-10 advantage with 3:32 left. 

 

WP carried a 43-14 margin into the locker room, and that lead never dipped below 25 during the second period, and was never less than 30 during the final 8:23 of the contest.  The Pioneers turned it over just 10 times during the contest despite using a number of different lineups, as all 13 of the active players made an appearance and 10 reached double digits in minutes played.  WP also compiled a 44.2 (34-77) field-goal percentage while making 15 of 18 (.833) free throws, all while limiting Rutgers-Camden to 28.6 (18-63) percent overall and 1-for-15 (.067) shooting from three-point range.

 

Junior forward Tatiana Javis (Hillside, N.J./Bloomfield Tech) collected nine rebounds for the Pioneers, and sophomore guard Kristine Jackiewicz (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) and freshman forward Ashley Marfo (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) each posted seven points.

 

Freshman Jasmin Ramos led Rutgers-Camden with 13 points, followed by senior Brittany Turner with 12.

 

William Paterson will play at Drew Tuesday, Jan. 24, at 7:00 p.m.
