(Haverford, Pa.) – The Dickinson College women's basketball team suffered a 53-44 loss at Haverford on Tuesday night. The score was close until the 'Fords pulled away late in the game and held on for the win. The win splits the series as the Devils topped Haverford at home in November.
The Devils jumped out to a 4-0 start and led for the opening five minutes of the game. The 'Fords broke a 17-17 tie with a 5-0 run late in the first half. They went into the break with a 26-24 advantage.
A 9-4 run to open the second half put Haverford in front, 35-28, with just under 15 minutes remaining. Dickinson stayed in the game, cutting the lead to 37-33, with 8:54 on the clock. The 'Fords went on another run to stretch the lead to 42-33.
The Devils would battle back to within six before the 'Fords answered for the final of 53-44.
Junior Belma Mekic (Camp Hill, Pa./Cedar Cliff) led the Red Devils with a team-high 11 points, adding five rebounds and five steals, hitting 5-of-6 free throws. Senior Taylor Miller (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) added nine points while junior Bridget Borgese (Swarthmore, Pa./Notre Dame de Namur) tallied eight points and seven rebounds.
Dana Walsh (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) controlled seven rebounds as well, adding six points and a pair of assists.
The Red Devils hit 17-of-20 free throws on the night, but were just 1-11 from beyond the arc. Three players scored nine points for Haverford while Dominique Meeks led the way with a game-high 12 points and six rebounds.
The Red Devils slip to 2-11 overall and 2-6 in the conference. They return home to face Washington College on Thursday at 6:00 pm.
