Devil Women Rally, Fall Short at Ursinus

(Carlisle, Pa.) – The Dickinson College women's basketball suffered a 68-61 loss, on the road at Ursinus on Saturday. The Red Devils slip to 1-9 overall and 1-4 in Centennial Conference play while the Bears pulled even at 4-4 with a 3-2 mark on the CC.

 

The game went back and forth early on with the teams playing to a 10-10 tie at the 16:27 mark. The Bears went on a 14-4 run to lead 24-14 with 5:34 on the clock.

 

Seven unanswered points from the Red Devils pulled them within a possession at 24-21 with 2:26 remaining in the half.

 

Ursinus closed out the half with a 13-3 run to lead 37-24 at the break.

 

The Bears extended the lead to 43-28 and held a 52-36 advantage with just under 13 minutes remaining in the game. The Devils battled back to pull within seven, trailing 57-50 with 8:08 left in the contest.

 

Lindsay Finnerty (Tenafly, N.J./Tenafly) drained a three-pointer to pull Dickinson within six, 65-59, with 1:50 to play. Lindsay Teuber converted a three-point play and the Devils answered with a field-goal in the closing minutes for the final of 68-61.

 

Senior Taylor Miller (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) scored 15 points to go with three rebounds and a pair of steals. She hit 5-of-6 from the free throw line.

 

Junior Belma Mekic (Camp Hill, Pa./Cedar Cliff) reached double-figures with 12 points, going 6-for-6 from the free throw line and 3-for-4 from the field. Classmate Bridget Borgese (Swarthmore, Pa./Notre Dame de Namur) tallied eight points, two rebounds and a pair of steals.

 

Finnerty added 12 points, four rebounds and a pair of assists while first-year Gillian Ferko (Palmerton, Pa./Marian Catholic) chipped in with six points and six rebounds.

 

The Red Devils conclude play for the semester. They return to action on January 4th, traveling to Muhlenberg College for a 7:30 tip-off.
