POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (January 17, 2012) – In a span of 63 seconds at the 15 minute mark of the second half, Hartwick College sophomore guard Maria Foglia connected on three consecutive 3-pointers, taking the visiting Hawks from a slim three point lead into a 12 point advantage, and a subsequent 67-55 victory over the Vassar College women's basketball team on Tuesday night at the Athletics & Fitness Center.

Foglia's 21-point effort, which included 5 of 6 from long distance, was the difference maker. Down 49-37 with 14:08 to play, the Brewers were never able to mount a substantial comeback. Vassar, which was held to 27 percent shooting in the second half, trailed by as many as 18 points (61-43) with 7:33 to play and was unable to tap into Hartwick's double-digit lead.

The loss drops the Brewers to 8-4, while the Hawks improve to 11-3. Vassar travels to William Smith this Friday night at 6:00 p.m. and Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. in Liberty League action.  Hartwick next hosts St. John Fisher in an Empire Eight Conference game on Friday.

Behind a 12-point first half performance from sophomore guard Cydni Matsuoka and eight points from senior forward Kristyn Tempora, the Brewers went into halftime down 36-34. In a half that was tied eight times and had six lead changes, the Brewers did hold a four-point lead at 26-22 with 4:15 to play following an old-fashioned three-point play from sophomore forward Hannah Senftleber.

Within the first six minutes of the first half, Hartwick went on an 11-3 run to put the Brewers in a deficit. Vassar tallied only seven points in the first ten minutes of the second half, enabling Hartwick on go on another run that resulted in the 18 point lead at 61-43. The Hawks, who held a 49-33 rebounding margin, capitalized nicely on an 18-5 advantage in second half points.

Matsuoka was held to just two second half points and finished with 14 points. Senior guard Brittany Parks finished with 14 points, coming alive late in the second half. Both Tempora and Senftleber each had nine points, with freshman forward Colleen O'Connell grabbing a team-high eight rebounds.

Following Foglia's 21 points, the Hawks got a 13-point, 13-rebound effort from sophomore guard Katie Purcell and 10 points from fellow sophomore guard Lee Arduini.
