LADY COUGARS FALL TO MARINERS

Brooklyn, NY- The Lady Cougars fell to the Merchant Marine Academy Mariners 72-35 on Monday January 16, 2012 at MEC. The loss dropped the Lady Cougars to 2-13 Overall while USMMA improved to 4-9.

MEC opened the game up with a layup from Senior Yvanna Jack, making the score 2-0 (19:31 left in half). The Mariners would tie the score and go on a 4-0 run. MEC would tie the score at 6, once again on a layup from Jack (15:50 left in the half). The Mariners would storm ahead and never relinquish the lead in the half. USMMA led by as much as 19pts in the half. MEC was outscored 37-18 in the 1st half.

The 2nd half was all Mariners. They expanded the lead to 27pts and lead by as much as 39pts. MEC once again was outscored 35-17. 

For the game, MEC was led from Senior Forward Yvanna Jack. Jack scored 18pts (2-2 FT), grabbed 7 rebounds, tallied an assist and a steal. Fellow classmate Chantal Biscette scored 16pts (2-3 FT), grabbed 5 rebounds, tallied 4 assists, a block, and 5 steals. 

USMMA was led from Roshenda Josephs, who scored 15pts. Tamara Kaileh and Katie Franchois each scored 14pts.

MEC will be back in action on Wednesday January 18, 2012, when they travel to 68th St and Lexington Ave, home of the Hunter College Hawks. Game time is 5:30pm.
