Miller Leads Wesley To Win Over Stevenson

DOVER, Del. – Jazmine Miller led Wesley College's women's basketball team defeat Stevenson University, 54-45, Monday night in Capital Athletic Conference action at Wentworth Gymnasium.  The Wolverines move to 3-11 on the year and 2-5 in the CAC while the Mustangs fall to 6-9 with an identical CAC mark.

Miller scored just 11 points with three three-pointers, but grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds to go with six assists and seven steals.  The double-double was her second of the season. Rachelle Allen scored a game-high 14 points and also dished out five assists while the Wolverines blocked a season-high eight shots.

Returning to a starting role, Haley Thomas had a solid game with five points, four boards and three assists.  Coming off the bench, Heather Fuller grabbed nine rebounds and blocked three shots while Katie Kirk drained three treys for nine points.  Allie Martin also gave Wesley some key minutes with three rebounds and a pair of blocks.

After a layup by Kayla Kelly cut Wesley's lead to 20-19 with 5:14 remaining in the first half, Miller scored eight of the Wolverines' next 12 points giving the Navy & White a 32-21 halftime lead. 

Aleisha Hobbs (eight points) scored the game's next four points coming out of regulation, putting Wesley on top 36-21 with 18:42 left to play.  The 15-point lead was the largest held by the Wolverines all season.

Stevenson did not go down without a fight and slowly cut the lead to 46-44 at the 2:36 mark.  After a timeout by Wesley, Katie Kirk drained a trifecta followed by a jumper by Allen to put the game out of reach.

Wesley outshot Stevenson 36.8% to 28.1% from the floor and its 16 assists were also a season-high.

The Wolverines are back on the hardwood Wednesday night when they host CAC rival Marymount for a 6 o'clock start.
