LaGrange's Covington reaches milestone in win over Covenant

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - Katie Covington reached another milestone and LaGrange remained unbeaten in the GSAC with a 97-81 win over Covenant (4-11, 2-3 GSAC) on Saturday.

Covington scored a season and game-high 33 points and went over the 1,000 point mark in her carreer. She joins Jessica Brown as the only Panthers to reach the milestone since the program started in 1999.

The junior was nearly perfect in the game. She made all 10 of her 2-point attempts and was 1-for-2 from 3-point range. Covington was a perfect 12-for-12 at the free throw line. She added five rebounds and assists each.

Heather Miller followed Covington with 16 points, making 3-of-4 3-point attempts. Stefanie Schuck added 15 points.

The Panthers (10-4, 6-0 GSAC) shot 51.8 percent in the game. They were 11-of-23 from 3-point range and made 18-of-22 free throws.

The two teams were tied at 14 with 14:49 left in the first half. Caroline Brashier's 3-pointer started a 19-3 run by the Panthers.

Brashier's 3 was one of five the Panthers had during the run. Alex Wilson finished the run with back-to-back 3's to make it 33-17.

Covington went over the 1,000 point mark with 3:48 left in the first half. She scored on a jumper to put the Panthers up 42-22. The Panthers led 46-30 at halftime.

The two teams combined for 102 points in the second half. Covington had 22 of her points in the second half.

Schuck's 3-pointer gave the Panthers their largest lead, 76-52. Covington matched it a few minutes later with two free throws to make it 78-54 with 7:54 remaining. Covenant got no closer than the final 16-point margin the rest of the way.

The Panthers play at Wesleyan on Monday and host Huntingdon on Wednesday. Both are GSAC games.
