Alvernia Falls At #24 Lebanon Valley, 72-56

Annville, Pa. (Jan. 14, 2012) - No. 24 Lebanon Valley College (13-2, 4-0) jumped out to a big early lead and hit 33-of-39 free throws in a 72-56 win over Alvernia University (6-4, 1-3) Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Conference women's basketball action at LVC Gymnasium.

The Dutchmen opened up a 16-point lead midway through the opening half and pushed it to 19 points by halftime, 39-20.  LVC hit 11-of-13 free throws in the first half and shot 50 percent from the floor while the Crusaders struggled from all ranges.  They hit just 3-of-11 free throws and 1-of-11 3s shooting 24 percent from the floor (8-for-33).

Senior Kelli McIntyre (Orwigsburg, Pa./Blue Mountain), after a 1-for-9 effort from the arc in the first half, started the second half with a 3, but the Dutchmen answered.  Alvernia senior Angela Altemose (Pottsville, Pa./Nativity BVM) hit a 3 on the next Crusaders possession.  LVC kept up the pressure maintaining a lead in double figures the rest of the way.

Alvernia had a pair of players reach double figures.  Altemose and reserve Cori Conner (Gloucester, N.J./Gloucester) scored 10 each.  LVC got a game-high 23 from Tierney Hiltz, who was just 5-of-6 from the floor, but hit 12-of-15 free throws.

Alvernia continues the conference schedule hosting Albright College on Wednesday.
