Ravens Lose Low-Scoring Game at Keystone

More news about: Rosemont

LA PLUME, Pa. - In a game that was ripe for the taking for the Rosemont College women's basketball team, the Ravens committed 24 turnovers and shot only 27.6% from the field against the host Keystone Giants this afternoon. Rosemont could not parlay their 61-32 rebounding advantage or make the most of the home side's own shooting challenges (25.4% from the field) to put enough separation between the two sides on the scoreboard when the opportunities presented themselves. The Giants seized the game in overtime by a final score of 52-50.

Leading 37-30 with 6:04 left in the game the Giants forced the game into overtime as the Ravens were outscored 11-4 down the stretch of regulation to make the score 41-41.

In the overtime period with the Ravens trailing 48-47, Ashley Montecchio (Jr./Sun Valley/Aston, Pa.) buried a trey to put the Ravens up 50-48 with only 0:36 to play. The Giant's Jazmyn Robinson had a shot fall to tie the game at 50-50 and was fouled on the play. Robinson missed the free throw but the Ravens were called for a lane violation. Robinson capitalized on the re-try to put the Giants up 51-50. The Ravens turned the ball over on their next-to-last possession, trailing 52-50, but still had a chance to tie or win the game in overtime. Unfortunately for Rosemont the Ravens missed a layup in their last possession to end the game.

With the loss the Ravens fell to 6-8 (2-6 CSAC) while the Giants won their sixth straight game to move to 6-7 (3-3 CSAC).

Rosemont's Liz Coyne (Fr./Downingtown West/West Chester, Pa.) scored 17 to lead both teams. Montecchio had 10 points and 17 rebounds to claim her seventh double-double of the season. Vanessa Johnson (Sr./GW Carver/Philadelphia) was a presence underneath, claiming 23 rebounds.

Keystone's Chantel Blake scored 14 while teammates Tiana Cuttino added 11 and Robinson tallied 10. Blake just missed a double-double, leading the Giants with nine boards.

The Ravens return to Alumnae Hall to host Notre Dame of Maryland University on Wednesday, 1/18 at 7:00pm in a CSAC contest.
