BUFFALO, NY - Despite trailing for much of the first half, the Medaille College women's basketball team kept its composure, surged ahead before the break and then held on for a (62-52) win over AMCC foe Penn State-Altoona in the Sullivan Center this evening. It is the Lady Mavs ninth win in their last ten games.
For the eighth time this season Tanisha Travis posted a double/double. This time she would pour in a game high (23) points on (9 of 13) shooting, grab a game best (14) rebounds and block a career high (7) shots in another remarkable performance. Teammate Joelle Pollak was held in check for the first half, scoring just five points in the opening twenty minutes. She would catch fire in the second half, scoring fourteen points to finish with (19) on the day. She also pulled down eight boards and matched a game best with (4) assists.
The Lady Mavs dominated in the lane as they outscored the Lions (28-10) in the paint while pulling down a remarkable (19) offensive rebounds. They won the battle of the boards all night, finishing with (46) rebounds to (37) for the visitors. Both Brittney Rowland and Meghan Dougherty netted five points apiece with Rowland dishing out four assists and Dougherty grabbing five caroms as well.
The win pushes Medaille to (10-4) overall and keeps them near the top of the AMCC standings at (6-2). They will look to stay on track when they head to D'Youville College on Monday (1/16) for a 3:00pm tipoff against the Spartans in another conference showdown.
