Coro & Riley Help RIC Maintain Top Spot in the Little East

Keene, N.H.-Senior guard Stephanie Coro (North Providence, RI) tallied a game-high 16 points, while senior forward Rachel Riley (Coventry, RI) posted 12 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks, as the Rhode Island College women's basketball team cruised past the Keene State Owls, 77-46, in Little East Conference action played at Spaulding Gymnasium.

 

RIC (12-2, 5-0 LEC) led from start to finish and extended its winning streak to nine games with the win. The Anchorwomen opened the game on a 15-2 run and shot  59 percent from the floor during the first frame. 

 

RIC never let the Owls (8-5, 3-2 LEC) get into their offense.  Coro stole the ball and went in for an uncontested layup to put RIC up 26-7 with 6:36 to go in the half. Girard found Riley down court with a couple of long passes that pushed the lead up to 34-9. RIC went to the locker room with a commanding 41-12 lead.  

 

The Anchorwomen held the Owls to 25 percent shooting from the field, while forcing a total of 20 turnovers. On the other end, RIC shot 53 percent from the floor, including a scorching-hot 56 percent (10-of-18) from downtown  

 

Senior guard Nicole Girard (Foster, RI) notched 14 points and four assists, while senior backcourt mate Cynthia Gaudet (Coventry, RI) finished with nine points, six assists and a pair of steals. Freshman Katie Donovan (Hudson, NH) registered six points off the bench for RIC.

 

Freshman guard Rachael Brucks (Suwanee, GA) led the Owls with 11 points, five rebounds, and five steals, while senior guard Meghan Farrell (Chester, VT) posted 10 points and five boards in the loss.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East Conference play at home against UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday, Jan. 17 (5:30 p.m.).
