Kerrville, TX— The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team kept it close, but fell just short in a hard-fought game as the Cru dropped a 65-59 decision to Schreiner University Thursday night in Kerrville. The UMHB women fall to 1-13 overall and 0-10 in American Southwest Conference play with the loss. Schreiner improves to 5-9 overall and 3-7 in ASC play with the win.

The Cru kept it close through the first half, but a late Schreiner rally gave the Mountaineers a 32-27 halftime lead. UMHB could not overcome Schreiner's huge edge from the free-throw line in the second half, allowing the Mountaineers to hold on. Schreiner was 16-20 from the charity stripe in the second half compared to the Cru's 6-7.

Brittany Zamora had a huge night for UMHB, erupting for a season-high 28 points. Gabby Guzman added nine points and seven rebounds and Jovana Miles had eight points and eight boards for the Cru.

Olivia Swarner led Schreiner with 20 points and 14 rebounds. Bailey Harris had 19 points and went 12-12 from the free-throw line. Karisa Cantu also reached double figures with 11 points for the Mountaineers.

The UMHB women will now return home to host Texas Lutheran University in a 1:00 PM tip-off on Saturday at the Mayborn Campus Center. The Cru will hit the road for the crucial Abilene swing next week to play key ASC West Division road games at Hardin-Simmons University and McMurry University.
