FREDERICK, Md.—The Hood College women's basketball team (3-11, 0-7 CAC) was defeated by York College (Pa.) (11-3, 5-1 CAC) 65-50 in the BB&T Arena Wednesday night. Hood is still looking for its first conference win of the season after fighting valiantly against the second-place Spartans.

Hood junior guard Dyanna Prater had a phenomenal game for the Blazers scoring a career-high 29 points and dishing out three assists. Prater had everything going for her which included her short game, mid-range and she hit some three's as well. Even though Prater had a great game it was not enough to stave off the Spartans. Leading scorer April Sparkman led the Spartans with 18 points and inside players Brittany Hicks and Kristen Haley chipped in with 15 and 11 points, respectively.

Hood kept the game close throughout the first half as York's largest lead was at seven with a 16-9 lead after a Hicks layup. Hood fought back and had the score at 24-23 after a pair of Prater free throws. York guard Kelsey Murphy made a three with five seconds remaining in the first half to send York into the half with momentum and a five-point lead.

Hood kept it close at the beginning of the second half with a Prater jumper to make it 37-34 with 15:07 remaining. Sparkman then hit a layup from York and also hit a three to push the lead to 10 and York would never look back. York pushed its largest lead to 18 and Hood was not able to close the gap before falling 65-50. Both teams made five threes for the game and York outrebounded Hood 53-41.

Hood looks to get back on the winning track when it hits the road this Friday for a nonconference matchup against Trinity University (D.C.) at 7 p.m.
