The Redlands women's basketball team repeated Thursday's effort during Saturday's 60-45 victory over the visiting Poets of Whittier College by leading wire to wire in its second Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) game of the season.
While holding their opponents to 21.7% shooting, the Bulldogs capitalized on mismatched opportunities in the paint en route to the team's eighth win of the season.
After scoring the first eight points of the game, Redlands maintained control of the lead through the final buzzer.
Although the Poets fought back to make it a three-point game just minutes later, the Bulldogs answered by opening it up with a double-digit lead when senior forward Courtney Carroll (Rancho Palos Verdes, CA) connected on a layup with 3:04 to go in the first half. She finished with a game-high 18 points, along with 12 rebounds and six assists.
Redlands held a double-digit lead through all but one possession during the second half.
Carroll recorded her sixth double-double and her 12th game with 11 or more points this season.
Sophomore forward Brittany Oster (Agoura Hills, CA) also supplied a double-double effort for the Bulldogs, scoring 13 points and pulling in 13 rebounds.
Junior guard Ashley Sevilla (San Diego, CA) knocked down a trio of three-pointers for nine points and freshman guard Kaity Lykins (Simi Valley, CA) impressed with 11 rebounds, including four on the offensive end.
Whittier (3-10, 0-2 SCIAC) gained 11 points from freshman guard Dannika Navales-Lugt (San Francisco, CA), while senior forward Tanisha White (Fresno, CA) added a team-high eight rebounds.
Redlands (8-5, 2-0 SCIAC) takes to the road for its next two contests, facing the University of La Verne on Thursday and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Saturday.
