Despite a 15-point, 10 rebound performance from Maranda Dohrn (Lake City, MN, Lake City), the UWRF women's basketball team suffered a 64-53 loss to UW-Whitewater in Whitewater.

It was the Falcons' first conference loss of the year. 
 
Dohrn's double double was the fifth of the season for the team's top rebounder.  Her 15 points matched a season-high.  She also had 15 points on Dec. 17 in the team's victory over Simpson College.  As a team, the Falcons edged UWW in rebounds 35-26.
 
The game was a back-and-forth contest until late in the second half when the Warhawks pulled away.
UWRF would go into halftime with a 31-29 lead, but a scoring drought plagued the Falcons' chance to go 5-0 to start WIAC play.
 
Tiffany Gregorich's (Altoona, WI, Altoona) bucket with 8:15 remaining in the game put the Falcons down only by one, 52-51.  However, that would be the last time the Falcons would score until T. Gregorich would connect again on a jumper with 13 seconds remaining.  Overall, the Falcons would go just over eight minutes without scoring, which allowed the Warhawks to pull away and earn their second conference victory.
 
T. Gregorich would finish the night with 11 points, 3 assists, 3 rebounds and 2 of the team's 4 steals.  Her sister, Brittany Gregorich (Altoona, WI, Altoona) would have the other two steals for the Falcons who are now 12-2 overall.
 
Nikki Guhr (Muskego, WI, Muskego) was the third Falcon to score in double digits.  She ended the contest with 12 points.
 
The Falcons, who came into the game ranked No. 14 in the Jan. 3 USA Today/ESPN Division III coaches' poll, shot a dismal 1-15 from three-point range for 7 percent.  The Warhawks, who received votes but did not make the top 25, were much better as they were 6-14 for 43 percent.
 
Both teams were pretty even from the field.  UWRF connected on 23-54 for 43 percent. UWW was just a tad bit better, connecting on 25-55 for an even 45 percent.
 
Mary Merg would lead al scorers with 20 points for Whitewater, who is now 10-4 overall and 2-3 in the WIAC.  The Falcons fall to 12-2 overall and 4-1 in the WIAC.

The teams will meet again for the final regular season match-up on Feb. 18 at the Karges Center.  Whitewater has the 41-25 advantage in the all time series between the two schools.
 
Up next for the Falcons is an away match at UW-La Crosse.  Action is set to get underway at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 11.

The Falcons are 32-31 all time against the Eagles.
