ROSEMONT, Pa. - In a sloppily-played game the Rosemont Ravens women's basketball team suffered a 21-3 run put together by the visiting Gwynedd-Mercy College Griffins, turning a Ravens two point lead into a 16-point halftime deficit from which Rosemont would not be able to recover. The decisive run by the Griffins came in the final 4:12 of the first half.

The Griffins defeated the Ravens by a final score of 83-69 to improve their record to 7-6 (3-1 CSAC). Rosemont dropped to 5-6 (1-4 CSAC) with the defeat.

The first half featured seven lead changes and five tie scores, but there would be no such events in the second half. The closest that Rosemont could get to Gwynedd-Mercy in the second stanza was six points, 52-46 with 12:11 left in the game.

The two teams combined for 55 turnovers, with the Ravens accounting for 33 of the gifts. The teams also committed a combined 38 fouls with three different players fouling out of the contest. The Ravens controlled the boards, 50-35, but could not put the ball in the hoop consistently enough to get back into the game. Rosemont shot 39% from the field but missed 12 free throws, shooting only 52% from the charity stripe against 45% from the field and 70% from the free-throw line for the visitors.

Ashley Montecchio (Jr./Sun Valley/Aston, PA) anchored the Rosemont offense, scoring 22 points with eight rebounds. Liz Coyne (Fr./Downingtown West/West Chester, PA) also hit double-figures with 17, just missing a double-double with nine boards. Nymira Nelson (Fr./Arch. Ryan/Philadelphia) also proved handy in the paint with nine boards and Vanessa Johnson (Sr./GW Carver/Philadelphia) added eight boards for the Ravens.

The Griffins placed four players in double-figures: Shea Wassel (18), Bryn Cotetta (7), Jordan Dominic (14), Jess Rotella (13).

The Ravens return to the floor on Monday night, 1/9, when they host CSAC-rival Neumann University at 6:00pm.
