The University of Scranton women's basketball team had one of its best offensive nights of the season in a 79-36 victory over Goucher College in the John. J. Long Center on Friday evening.

Sophomore guard Alison Sweeney (Wall, N.J./St. Rose) led Scranton with 14 points, including four 3-pointers. Junior forward Tayler Pallotta (Dunmore, Pa./Dunmore) had 10 points and five steals and sophomore guard Raychel Shannon (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Forks Central) had 10 points as the Lady Royals improved to 7-6 overall and 2-0 in the Landmark Conference.

The Lady Royals shot 42 percent (29-for-69) from the field, including draining 11 of 21 shots from 3-point range. The 11 made 3-pointers are tied for the team's most this season; they also canned 11 3-pointers in an 82-75 victory over Marywood University on Nov. 30. Scranton's 79 points were also its most since that victory over Marywood.

Scranton also held a 45-27 advantage on the rebounds, and an incredible 25 of their rebounds came on the offensive end. That helped the Lady Royals scored 26 second-chance points. They also scored 35 points off 28 Goucher turnovers while turning it over just 14 times themselves.

Scranton held Goucher to 34.1 percent (15-for-44) from the field. More importantly, Scranton took 25 more shots from the field (69 to Goucher's 44) thanks to the edge in rebounds and turnovers.

Junior forward Erin Boggan (Danbury, Conn./Danbury) added eight points and seven assists for Scranton, while freshman guard Lia DiSciascio (Broomall, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) added eight points and fellow freshman guard Lindsay Fluehr (Bensalem, Pa./Nazareth Academy) had six points and seven assists.

Goucher, which dropped to 3-9 and 0-2 in the Landmark Conference, was led by nine points from senior forward Elizabeth Von Ende (Leawood, Kan.).

The Lady Royals are back in action Saturday when they host Catholic University at 4 p.m. in the Long Center.
