ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. Elizabethtown women's basketball had York right where it wanted it in the final moments of regulation, but the Blue Jays were unable to come up with the coveted bucket on their final possession. The Spartans would take advantage in overtime, outscoring E-town 10-5 to walk away with a 66-61 non-conference victory at Thompson Gymnasium Wednesday evening.

Nadine Yunginger and Stephanie Ellwood, a pair of upperclassmen, combined to score 15 of E-town's 31 second half points, as the Jays (8-4) rallied from a four-point halftime deficit. York, which handed Elizabethtown a 64-57 defeat back at the Terry Greene Memorial Tournament in late November, seemingly had an answer each time E-town came close in the second half. That changed with just under two and a half minutes left in regulation as Yunginger tied the game at 53 on a layup and Taylor Alwine tied it at 56 with 51 seconds to play by hitting 1-of-2 free throw attempts.

Elizabethtown was set up with the final possession of regulation after April Sparkman's missed layup, but could not get a shot off after turning the ball over at the top of the arc with two seconds left. YCP jumped out to a three-point edge 57 seconds into OT on Kelsey Murphy's trifecta. The Blue Jays responded once more, using jumpers from Kendra Beittel and Yunginger to knot things at 60. Unfortunately for the Blue and Gray, it would get just one point in the final two minutes in dropping its third straight decision to the Spartans in the all-time series.

Sparkman and Kristen Haley, ranked first and second on York's roster in scoring, swapped places on this night, with Haley scoring a game-high 22 and Sparkman netting 18. The two teams were nearly identical from the floor with E-town hitting 22-of-66 attempts (33.3%) and the Spartans knocking down 22-of-67 (32.8%). Sparkman's four three-pointers were a factor, as was E-town's 13-of-24 effort from the foul line. The Jays have been to the foul line 111 times in their last four games, but have converted just 69 of those attempts (62.1%).

Taylor Kreider added another double-double to her resume with 14 points and a matching 14 rebounds. The double-double was her fourth in the last five games. Three other E-town players joined Kreider with double-figure scoring nights. Ellwood had 12 on 5-of-9 shooting, Yunginger 11 and Beittel 10.

Taylor Alwine had seven points and six boards in 29 key minutes of reserve duty for the Jays, which fell for the first time in five games.

York's Aja Wallpher, the Division III leader in assists per game, dished out a game-high five. Her teammate, Sparkman, also blocked four shots in addition to her strong shooting effort.

York, which has only been outrebounded four times all season, had it done to themselves for a second time by the Blue Jays, 53-45. Yunginger, the 5-foot-2 point guard, had seven of those boards, second only to Kreider's 14.

Elizabethtown will return to Thompson Gymnasium for the resumption of Commonwealth Conference play next Wednesday. The Jays host Widener, with tip-off scheduled for 6 p.m.
