Toms' win streak hits nine with big crosstown win

Taylor Young had 16 points, four assists and three steals to lead the visiting Tommies (9-1 overall, 7-0 MIAC) to a 91-47 victory over St. Catherine in Wednesday night's MIAC women's basketball play on the Wildcats' floor.

St. Thomas ran its season winning streak to nine -- the program's longest such streak in 10 seasons. The Toms now hold first place alone in the MIAC as Bethel lost 66-56 at home to St. Ben's. 

UST knocked down 15-of-16 at the foul line and shot 47% from the floor. The Toms used a 36-7 run to close the first half ahead 51-22.

Four other UST players scored in double figures. Sarah Smith, Maggie Weiers and Carolyn Dienhart each scored 11 points. Anna Smith chipped in 10 points, five assists and three steals.

Sarina Baker had a game-high 21 points for SCU (1-9, 0-7).

The Tommies are home Saturday to play Augsburg (1 p.m.).
