FREDERICK, Md.--  The Hood College women's basketball team (3-9, 0-5 CAC) was defeated by Stevenson University (5-6, 1-3 CAC), 63-56, in a closely contested conference matchup Wednesday evening at BB&T Arena. The loss drops Hood to 0-5 in conference play and ended its two-game winning streak.

Hood was led once again by junior guard Dyanna Prater, who scored 16 points in all 40 minutes of action. Prater was stifled by tough Mustang defense in the first half but had a strong second half to help her lead the Blazers in points. Prater added six rebounds and one assist to her stat line although she was not the only Hood player to play all 40 minutes. Junior guard Jessica Talley also played all 40 minutes and contributed nine points and five rebounds in the contest. Stevenson was led by Daniela Poss, who scored 17 points including 10 after halftime.

It was a very closely contested game throughout as neither team trailed by more than four points in the first half. Junior guard Emily Maerz paced Hood in the first with eight of her 14 points. Stevenson was up by as many as eight points with 10 minutes and change remaining in the second half; however, Hood went on a 10-1 run, which included a layup by Prater, to give Hood a one-point advantage with six minutes showing on the clock.

Stevenson then got a layup by Kyarra Harmon and a three-point basket by Sam Murray to go through the net to push the Mustang lead back to seven at 54-47. Poss then scored a short shot inside to give Stevenson an eight-point advantage and some breathing room. Prater hit a three with a minute remaining to cut the lead to five but Poss once again came up big with another shot inside and a few free throws to cap the game for Stevenson.

Hood outshot Stevenson 36 percent to 33 percent and also made five threes throughout the game to Stevenson's two. The Blazers shot just 11-of-27 from the free throw line while Stevenson took advantage of their trips to line converting 25-of-33. Stevenson also outrebounded Hood 51-38.

The Hood women will look to win their first conference game as they travel to Marymount this Saturday for a 2 p.m. tip.
