San Antonio, TX— The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team saw a return of its season-long shooting woes and the Cru lost a 86-58 decision to Trinity University Saturday afternoon in San Antonio. The loss drops the UMHB women to 1-9 on the season. The Tigers improve to 4-8 on the year with the victory.

UMHB scored the game's first four points and the Cru held a 12-11 lead with 12:31 remaining in the first half. Trinity answered with a 12-2 run to grab a nine-point lead and the Cru would not get closer than four points the rest of the way. Trinity stretched the lead to 14 points at halftime and led by 13 or more points the entire second half in cruising to the win.

Cortney Poncik and Carmen Maciel led the Cru with 10 points apiece. Miranda Shorter added eight points, four steals and three assists and Jovana Miles pulled down a team-best eight rebounds.

Murphy Burns had 29 points to top Trinity and she hit 4-7 from three-point range. Anne Waidelich added 14 points for the Tigers. Hannah Coley had 12 points and 10 rebounds off the bench and Alison Salman also reached double figures with 11 points for Trinity.

UMHB shot just 30 percent from the field in the game and hit just 4-19 from beyond the arc. Trinity shot a blistering 71 percent in the second half and finished at 52 percent for the game. The Tigers were 9-17 from three-point range and forced 23 UMHB turnovers. Trinity also out rebounded the Cru 47-40 to help overcome 22 turnovers.

The Cru will return to action with a pair of American Southwest Conference road games next week. UMHB will play a 5:30 PM tip-off at University of the Ozarks next Thursday before facing U.T.-Dallas in a 1:00 PM start next Saturday.
