Waskow's career night leads to Kohawk victory

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - Senior Kayla Waskow (Dunkerton, Iowa/Dunkerton) tallied a career-high in points (25) and rebounds (11) in Coe's 77-69 win over Wisconsin-Platteville.  After an 0-2 start, the Kohawks have won back-to-back games.

The Kohawks jumped all over the Pioneers to start the game, as they opened the first 4:33 on a 13-2 run.  Waskow scored 11 of Coe's 13 points on the run, including the final seven.  Wisconsin-Platteville responded with a 10-2 run of its own in the next 2:12 to cut Coe's lead to three on a 3-point basket by Liz Lawinger.  

Coe once again used a big run to extend the lead to double digits.  Sophomore Mackenzie Reed (Iowa City, Iowa/West) scored the first three points of the run and added a jumper later on as the Kohawks went on a 13-4 run in just over four minutes to take a 28-16 lead with 8:27 to play in the first half.  The game of runs continued, as the Pioneers went on a 13-4 run of their own in just under three minutes.

Both teams traded baskets throughout the second half, with Coe's lead never reaching double figures in the second half.  Coe led the game from start to finish.

Senior Leslie Ware (Des Moines, Iowa/Johnston) and freshman Megan Hayes (Bettendorf, Iowa/Bettendorf) joined Waskow in double figures with 17 and 10 points respectively.  Lawinger led the Pioneers with a career-high 30 points.  On top of Waskow's career-high 11 rebounds, Hayes added seven and Reed grabbed five.

Ware had a game-high six assists.  Ware connected on 3-of-6 3-point attempts, while freshman Kolbie Creger (Winterset, Iowa/Winterset) was 2-of-3 from downtown for a career-high six points.

The Kohawks open Iowa Conference play on Wednesday, as they host Loras.  Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Eby Fieldhouse.
