ELMHURST, Ill. – The Edgewood College women's basketball team was hoping to enter Christmas on a high note, but Elmhurst College sent the Eagles home for the holidays singing the blues. The Bluejays controlled the game from the opening tip and rolled past the Eagles 69-33 in Edgewood College's last game before Christmas.

Elmhurst College (9-1) held the Eagles without a field goal for nearly 11 minutes to open the game. Alison Tobin scored the Edgewood College's first bucket with 9:10 to play in the first half to cut the Bluejays lead to 12-5, but little could stop the Bluejays offense. After Tobin hit a three-point basket to make the score 21-13, but Elmhurst ended the half on a 21-3 run, to take a 42-16 lead. Elmhurst shot 53.8 percent in the first half and hit four three-pointers.

Edgewood College (3-5) scored the first points of the second half on a pair of Tobin free throws and added another basket by Dareon Henderson, but Elmhurst put the game away with a 13-2 run. Edgewood College shot just 16.4 percent from the field for the game, and made just 10 of 21 free throws.

Tobin was the lone Eagle in double figures, putting up 16 points, including a pair of three-point baskets. Tobin, Henderson and Brittany Bylsma shared rebounding honors with six boards apiece. The Eagle only turned the ball over 13 times for the game, but their cold shooting night sealed their fate.

Edgewood College will fly to the West Coast after Christmas in hopes of turning their fortunes around. The Eagles will participate in the Redlands Winter Classic on December 29-30. The Eagles will play host school University of Redlands the first day, before facing UC-Santa Cruz on Friday.
