DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. – It took awhile to shake off the rust of a more than two-week layoff, but the Pacific women's basketball team picked up right where it left off.

Brittney Anderson (Sr., Missoula, Mont.) scored a season-high 16 points and Paige Jensen (Jr., Bemidji, Minn.) recorded her first double-double of the season with 11 points and 14 rebounds as the Boxers defeated Hamline University 53-39 at the Daytona Beach Shootout at Ocean Center.

With the win, Pacific improves to 7-1 on the season, its best start since 1990.

The Boxers misfired early, connecting on only 8 of 31 shots (25.8 percent) in the first half with 12 turnovers, but held the Pipers to 19 percent shooting in the first half (5-26) and 25.5 percent for the game (14-55).

Head coach Sharon Rissmiller went to the bench early, bringing in four new players after the Boxers missed seven of their first eight shot attempts. Olivia Cook (Fr., Beaverton, Ore.) responded with a three-pointer to put Pacific in front 7-0.

The Boxers held the Pipers scoreless for nearly six minutes to start the game until Steph Pilgrim buried a three to make it 7-3 Pacific with 14:12 to go in the half. That started a seven point run for Hamline, capped by Je'Nava Brown's three-pointer to tie the game at 7-7. Erica Schultz broke the tie with a steal and layup and Pacific regained the lead for good with 10:04 left in the first half.

Annette Highley drained a three-pointer with three seconds left to give the Boxers a 21-13 lead at the break. After the Boxers opened up a 25-15 on an Anderson layup, the Pipers were able to close the gap to five when Brown hit another three-pointer, to make the score 27-22 with 14:08 left in the game. The teams traded buckets before a 13-4 run led by Schultz (five points) and Jensen (six points) gave the Boxers a double-digit lead they would maintain to the finish line.

Pacific dominated inside, outscoring the Pipers 34-8 in the paint with a 22-4 edge in second chance points. Anderson hit 8 of 16 from the field in her best scoring effort since notching 19 points against George Fox during her freshman season in 2009. The 5-10 forward also cleared a season-high nine rebounds. Jensen added five steals to complement her season-high rebounding effort.

Brown led Hamline (2-5) with 12 points, while Jordan Sammons added 11, nearly five under her season average coming in.

Pacific returns to action Tuesday afternoon, facing Lakeland College at 1 p.m. Pacific time, before returning to the Stoller Center on Dec. 30 to face La Sierra University at 2 p.m. in their final nonconference game.
