UW-Stevens Point women's basketball soars past Whitewater 71-50

WHITEWATER, WI. – Four players scored in double-figures as the seventh-ranked UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team's 71-50 rout of UW-Whitewater at Kachel Gym Wednesday evening.

The Pointers came out of the gates with a 23-2 run through the first 10:34 of the first half, and carried that momentum into halftime with a 38-18 lead.  

UW-Whitewhater opened the second half with a 7-1 run through the first 4:20, but the Warhawks could not keep pace, as the Pointers held them to just 32.7-percent from the field for the game.

The Pointers connected on 50 percent of their three-point attempts. Cassie Brandow and Brooke Allen (Barneveld, WI/Barneveld) shot 3-for-4 from behind the arc. Brandow finished with 13 points and Allen added 11. Sam Barber (Schofield, WI/D.C. Everest/Winona St.) led the Pointers in scoring with 17 points on 10-of-12 shooting from the field. Alyssa Olp (Brillion, WI/Brillion) chipped in with 10 points.

Emily Bestor was the only player to score in double-digits for the Warhawks on the evening, scoring 17.

The Pointers improve to 9-0 on the season, 4-0 in conference play, and return home to Berg Gym Saturday, Dec. 17 to host Lawrence University at 7 p.m.
