FREDERICK, Md.—The Hood College women's basketball team (1-8, 0-4 CAC) was handed defeat by St. Mary's College (Md.) (3-6, 2-1 CAC) by a count of 70-41 at BB&T Arena Saturday.

Hood trailed for the most of the game but fought hard into the second half. St. Mary's put the game out of reach when it went on a 12-1 run to stretch its lead to 53-33 with eight minutes remaining in the game. Hood was also outrebounded 55-49 in a game that saw many rebounds for both teams.

The Blazers return to action in a week when they travel and play in non-conference action against Notre Dame (Md.) with a 1 p.m. tip.
