The women's basketball team continued with their winning ways by defeating Martin Luther College 74-50 in New Ulm, Minn.  With the win, the Falcons are now 7-0 to start the season. 

The Falcons came into the game ranked No. 18 in the nation by the D3hoops.com poll.
 
It was the Falcons bench that gave UWRF the spark to keep them in command throughout the entire game. The Falcons' bench accounted for 30 points in the decisive victory.  Holly Riesselman (Cottage Grove, MN, Park) had career-highs in both points and rebounds. She had nine points to lead the Falcon bench. Her seven rebounds led all players. Emilee Branum (Brainerd, MN, Brainerd) also had a career-high with seven points in the winning effort.
 
Tiffany Gregorich (Altoona, WI, Altoona) would lead all players with 12 points.  She also set a career high with seven steals in leading the defensive charge.  Her previous career high was six, which came on Feb. 11, 2011 against UW-Eau Claire.  As a team, the Falcons had 12 steals on the night.
 
Nikki Guhr (Muskego, WI, Muskego) would add 11 points in rounding out an impressive offensive onslaught for the Falcons, who with their 24-point margin of victory had their largest victory of the season in this game against the Knights.  This came only three days after their previous largest margin of victory of 21 against UW-Platteville.
 
The Falcons are getting accustomed to fast starts.  Within the first 5:30 of play, the Falcons went on a 15-2 run, building a lead they would never relinquish. After that run, the closest Martin Luther would come was within nine with 1:04 to go in the first half. They would go into halftime leading 38-24.  Their largest lead was 27, which came with 2:04 to play in the game.
 
Each team ran into trouble with turnovers. Martin Luther had 22, UWRF 20, but UWRF was better able to capitalize.  As a team, the Falcons scored 22 points off of turnovers, while holding the Knights to a mere eight.
 
The Falcons shot very well from field goal range, connecting on 28-63 for 44.4 percent.  Martin Luther was 18-47 for 38.3 percent. The Falcon defense held Martin Luther to zero three-pointers in the first half.  The Falcons meanwhile connected on 7-14 for an even 50 percent.

"We had a good team effort tonight," said Falcon Coach Cindy Holbrook. "We got to play a lot of kids and had multiple players step up for us. Holly (Riesselman) rebounded really well."
 
With the win, the Falcons are now 7-0 overall.  They improve to 6-0 all-time against the Knights.
Their next game is a pivotal WIAC match-up at UW-Oshkosh.  Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 10 in Oshkosh.  The Falcons are 22-44 all-time against the Titans.
