Brooklyn, NY-  The Medgar Evers Women's Basketball Team kicked off their 2011-2012 season with a defeat at the hands of the Rutgers-Newark Scarlet Raiders with a score of 78-32.  From the very beginning of the game, the Raiders were in control and jumped out to a quick lead going on an 16-0 point run and never relinquishing the lead.  The Lady Cougars at times looked to be able to hold the Raiders off with some good defense and rebounding.  Yvanna Jack had 4 defensive rebounds in both the first and second halves.  Chantal Biscette was the Lady Cougars main offensive weapon last night, scoring 4-9 from the field in the first half and 4-6 from behind the free throw line.  At the end of the first half the score was 44-15.

The second half saw much of the same as the Scarlet Raiders, led by Jasmine Daniels (6-7 FG, 5 Steals) , ShaQuanna Marshall (3-12 FG, 5 Assists, 9 Steals), and Arianna Williams (6-7 FG, 3 Steals), dominated the Lady Cougars by adding another 30 points to an already lopsided score.  Chantal Biscette, however, was determined to try and keep the Lady Cougars in the game by shooting 3-9 FG and 1-2 FT before she took an early exit from the game due to an injury.

The Lady Cougars will look to capture their first win as they play Yeshiva University on Thursday Novemeber 17th @ 8pm in the Cougar Cave.
