ROSEMONT, Pa. - First year Elizabeth Coyne (Downingtown West/West Chester, Pa.) and junior Ashley Montecchio (Sun Valley/Aston, Pa.) combined for 52 points and 17 rebounds to lead the Rosemont Ravens past the visiting Penn State-Berks Nittany Lions by a final score of 82-56 in a non-conference game. The win was the team's first home victory and moved their record to 3-4 (0-3 CSAC). The Lions fell to a 1-6 overall record with the loss.
The Ravens never trailed in the game, but the Lions kept close with the Ravens taking a two-point lead at 19-17 with 9:15 left in the first, but Rosemont went on a 9-0 lead to take a 28-17 lead and were never seriously threatened for the rest of the contest. Rosemont took a 38-21 lead into the locker room and continued to pull away from PSU-Berks in the second half to earn the victory.
Coyne scored 28 points and reeled in ten boards for her second double-double of the season. Coyne also contributed five steals to her effort. Montecchio scored 24 and pulled down seven caroms for the Ravens.
The Lions placed three players in double-digits (Shakiyla Stone-16, Fatima Rone-14, Ashley Kenny-10). Rone added nine boards to lead her team.
The Ravens out-rebounded the Lions by a 51-38 count and shot a lusty 46.4% from the field compared to PSU-Berks shooting 35.8%.
The Ravens return to CSAC action on Wednesday, 11/7 as they travel to Allentown to face the Cedar Crest Falcons. Game time is scheduled for 7:00pm.
