NEW LONDON, Conn. -- The Mitchell College women's basketball team suffered an 82-35 setback in a non-conference showdown at Connecticut College on Monday night at Luce Field House.

Jenn Shinall scored her 1,000th career point in the opening half of action and finished with a career-high 28 points as the Camels coasted to victory. Conn College improved its record to 6-1 with the win, while the Mariners slipped to 1-5 with the loss.

Shinall shot 6-for-10 from three-point distance and was 9-for-15 from the field. She added five steals and three assists while converting on all four of her free throw attempts. She is the 12th Camel women's basketball to reach the 1,000-point club and the first since 2007.

Carlee Smith added 10 points with four rebounds and four steals for the winning side. The Camels out-rebounded the Mariners 47-30 and used that advantage to outscore the visitors 20-6 at the charity stripe.

The Mariners played through adversity, as head coach Bern Macca dressed only seven players for the contest. Freshman Sheanna James netted a team-best 15 points to go with four rebounds while senior Bianca Young added 12 points and five boards for the Mariners.

Shinall reached the 1,000-point barrier with 8:30 remaining in the first half, netting her 16th and 17th point of the contest with a pair of free throws.

The Camels built a 34-17 lead in the opening half when Jeanna Dunleavy hit Tara Gabelman on a back-door cut to the hoop with 6:15 to go. Later on in the half with 4:47 remaining, Dana Albalancy buried a three-ball to vault the Camels out to a 37-18 advantage. The hosts carried a 41-23 lead into the break.

Shinall came out firing in the second stanza and knocked down a pair of threes in the opening moments to spark the Camels on a 17-3 run that put the game out of reach. Kacie Quick capped the rally with a hoop and some harm at the 14:48 mark to make it a 58-26 game.

Mitchell returns home for its conference opener against Elms College on Tuesday, December 6 at 7:30 p.m.
