Jessica Christensen (Turnin, Iowa/West Monona) led all scorers with 19 points, as the Buena Vista women's basketball team jumped out to a 41-12 halftime lead, en route to a commanding 90-22 home victory over Crown College on Saturday afternoon.
Christensen nailed a game-high five three-pointers in the contest and finished 7-for-11 from the field overall. Laura Hilby (Johnston, Iowa/Johnston) added 10 points, on 4-of-6 shooting. A total of 14 different players scored in the game for BVU, including eight with at least six points. As a team, the Beavers shot just 37 percent from the field, but out-rebounded the Storm, 56-36, and forced a season-high 43 turnovers.
Crown (0-4) scored the game's first bucket and then it was all BVU from there, as the team used a 29-2 run over the next 12 minutes en route to the 29-point halftime lead. The Beavers came out and held Crown scoreless in the second half until there was just under seven minutes to play in the game.
Buena Vista remains perfect at home and is now 5-3 overall this season. The team will look to stay unbeaten on their home court and in league play when it hosts Wartburg College on Wednesday night at 6:00pm.
