RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Edgewood College women's basketball team is quickly figuring out what they need to do to win basketball games. Namely, rebound, make free throws and play stifling defense. The Eagles stayed true to their identity and earned their second Northern Athletics Conference win of the season with a 53-46 victory on the road over Concordia University Chicago.

The first half was a back-and-forth affair with Edgewood College (2-3, 2-1 NAC) grabbing an early 16-10 lead on a three-point basket by freshman Mariah Hill. It would be the second of four three-point baskets on the day for Hill. Concordia Chicago scored the next seven points, but the Eagles reclaimed a 25-24 halftime lead on an Alison Tobin layup with 17 seconds to go.

Concordia University Chicago (1-5, 0-3 NAC) outscored the Eagles 8-1 to open the second half and grabbed a 32-26 lead. However, the Eagles reeled in the Cougars to tie the game at 35 before making their decisive run. Melanie Walker hit four free throws, sandwiched around a Hill three-point basket to start what would be an 11-0 run. Brittany Bylsma and Allison Novitvke also sunk a pair of free throws as nine of the Eagles' 11 points came from the free throw line and the Eagles led 46-35 with less than eight minutes to go.

The Eagles continued to hammer the offensive glass, extending possessions and using clock even when they didn't score. Tobin scored a layup to make the Eagles lead 50-39, but it wasn't until Hill scored and was fouled with 1:01 to play did the Eagles breathe a little easier. Hill didn't convert the free throw, but Edgewood College (2-3, 2-1 NAC) still held a 52-44 lead with a minute to play and the Eagles went on to claim their first road win of the season.

Hill, who earned her first career start, led the Eagles in scoring for the fourth straight game. The freshman guard put up 15 points, on the strength of 4-for-8 shooting from the three-point line. Tobin finished with 11 points and a team-high seven rebounds, while Walker scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds. The Eagles went 14-for-21 from the free throw line and held a commanding 46-34 edge in rebounds. Edgewood College's defensive pressure limited the Cougars to just 26.8 percent shooting from the field.

Edgewood College will be off until next Thursday, when they travel to Fond du Lac for a NAC match-up with Marian University. The Eagles will then return home next Saturday against Benedictine University for their final home game before the Christmas holiday.
