WATERVILLE, Maine --- Jil Vaughan (Wareham, Mass.) had a double-double in scoring and rebounding as the 15th-ranked Colby College women's basketball team earned the biggest win of the season thus far with a 56-41 win over 10th-ranked Bowdoin College on Saturday at Wadsworth Gymnasium.

The Mules move to 5-0 overall, while Bowdoin lost for the second time this week in falling to 3-2. The Polar Bears had dropped a game to University of Southern Maine earlier in the week. This game did not count in the New England Small College Athletic Conference standings.

Vaughan was 8-for-11 from the field and used every bit of her 6-foot-3 frame to help Colby win the battle of the boards at 38-33.

The Mules, who led 28-21 at halftime, only were leading 38-33 with 11:20 left in the game. Colby still led 45-37 after Bowdoin's Kaitlin Donahoe (Amherst, N.Y.) hit two free throws with 5:53 to play. The Mules, though, scored the next five points --- three from Vaughan and two from Rachael Mack (Augusta, Maine) --- to move the lead to 50-37 with just over three minutes to play. Bowdoin never threatened again and Colby went 6-for-6 from the foul line in the final minute. The Mules are shooting a stunning 83 percent (54-for-65) from the foul line as a team.

Diana Manduca (Portland, Maine) finished with eight points, seven rebounds, and a game-high seven assists for Colby. Aarika Ritchie (Lee, Maine) added 12 points and six rebounds, while Jacky McLaughlin (Medfield, Mass.) had nine points and five rebounds. Mack had eight points and pulled down five rebounds.

Donahoe had 12 points and was the only double figure scorer for Bowdoin, which shot just 29 percent from the field. Colby was at 40 percent for the game. Both teams struggled from 3-point range, combining for a 6-for-32 effort (Bowdoin 1-10, Colby 5-22).
