FARMINGTON, Maine -- Bates College's 50-20 first-half blitz helped the Bobcats roll to an 84-46 victory over the University of Maine at Farmington in non-conference women's basketball action tonight at Dearborn Gymnasium.

Bates (2-1) is scheduled to face the Massachusetts College of the Liberal Arts Friday at Norwich University. The Beavers slipped to 1-4  and are scheduled to open North Atlantic Conference play Friday at home against Castleton State College (men at 5:30 p.m., women to follow).

Allie Beaulieu (Swampscott, Mass.) led all scorers with 22 points, including four 3-pointers, in the victory, while Meredith Kelly (Cohasset, Mass.) chipped in 15 points. Annie Burns (Topsfield, Mass.) handed out seven assists for Bates with Kelly headlining the defensive effort with four thefts.

The Bobcats scored 48 points off 30 UMF turnovers.

Lindsay Ranquist (Owls Head, Maine) scored 14 points to lead UMF with Emma Morrison (Saco, Maine) adding 13 points and Paige Saunders (Surry, Maine) providing game highs of  eight rebounds and four blocked shots.

Behind three 3-pointers from Beaulieu, the Bobcats scored the game's first 10 points and took a 13-3 lead with 15:24 left in the half. Beaulieu finished the first half with 13 points.

Bates led by as many as 19 before the Beavers trimmed the deficit to 28-15 on a Morrison basket with 4:58 remaining, but the Bobcats ticked off the game's next 17 points to pull away from the hosts for a 45-15 command with 1:49 until intermission. Kelly scored six points and Lauren Dobish (Chambersburg, Pa.) netted five points as Bates forced seven turnovers during the run the help the Bobcats to a 50-20 halftime cushion.
