Sharpshooting Helps Allegheny End Two Game Slide

ALLIANCE, Ohio - Allegheny came into today's Mount Union Turkey Shootout consolation game looking to avoid a three game losing streak. They would do just that, shooting lights out en route to an 84-74 victory over Waynesburg (Pa.).

Allegheny would get off to yet another slow start, trailing for a majority of the first 10 minutes. The Gators would battle back though, trading the lead with Waynesburg until junior Heidi Goeller hit a jumper in the paint to give Allegheny a two point lead.

The Gators would not look back, increasing their lead to as much as nine in the first half after a jumper by freshman Kendall Hoffman. Allegheny would go into the first half with a five point cushion after shooting an amazing 63 percent from the field.

The Yellow Jackets would not go down without a fight however, as they would climb all the way back and take the lead at the 15 minute mark. Again the teams would trade the lead, neither one looking as if they would pull away. Waynesburg would cut Allegheny's lead to one midway through the half when the Gators decided to put their foot on the gas.

Junior Daryl Ford hit a layup to increase the lead to three, and after a Yellow Jacket turnover, sophomore Erica Restich would drain a three to give the Gators a six point cushion. Those buckets would spark Allegheny on an 11-0 run to give them a commanding lead that they wouldn't relinquish.

Goeller, who was named to the M Club Shootout all-tournament team, would end the game with her first double-double of the season, pouring in a season high 24 points, to go along with 18 rebounds. Restich would also score 24 points, and Ford ended the contest with 20 points of her own as Allegheny improves to 4-2 on the season.

The Gators are off until next Wednesday, when they will host the College of Wooster at 6:00 pm.
