Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College Women's Basketball Team got off to a 1-0 start in conference play this evening as they eased their way to a 71-19 victory over visiting Medgar Evers College.  With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 5-0 overall while the Cougars fall to 0-5 and 0-1 in CUNYAC play.

Justine O'Callahan started the scoring for Brooklyn with a layup five seconds into play to give her team an early 2-0 advantage, however a Tiffany Woodbine three-pointer would give Medgar Evers a one-point advantage.  It would be their only lead of the game as a Lauren Plagainos three sparked a 20-0 run that saw BC balloon their advantage to 19, 22-3.

A Chantal Biscette basket would cut the lead to 17, but BC would finish the half on a 26-2 run to increase the lead at the intermission to 39.  At the half Brooklyn would own a 20-2 advantage on points in the paint in addition to a 16-0 lead on points off turnovers.

The Bulldogs looked sharp to begin the second half, pulling away even further with an 11-1 run to jump the advantage to more than 40 points and eliminating any chance of a Medgar comeback.

"I thought that we had a lot of energy on the defensive side of the ball," said Head Coach Alex Lang.  "It was important for us to start conference play with a win and I thought our bench was a big part of our effort tonight."

Brooklyn got 36 points from the afforementioned bench as freshman guard Ashley McCaughan led all scorers with 13 points to go along with eight rebounds and four steals.  Tiffany Thompson added a double-double, scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.

Charnelle Saint Laurent was the third Brooklyn player in double-figures, scoring 10 points while adding three assists.
In the well-rounded effort, 12 of the 13 players who got in the game scored for the Bulldogs.

Brooklyn will have a tough road ahead as they face two local rivals in non-league games as they travel to NYU-Poly on Saturday and St. Joseph's Brooklyn on Tuesday.  The Bulldogs will return home on Thursday, December 8th when host Nationally ranked Lebonon Valley College as they second half of a basketball doubleheader scheduled for 8:00 pm. The Dutchmen are currently ranked #8 in the D3hoops.com poll and are undefeated on the season.
