MADISON, Wis. – It may not always be pretty, but it doesn't matter if your team comes away with a win like the Edgewood College women's basketball team did on Tuesday night. Edgewood College and Maranatha Baptist combined for more than 50 turnovers, but the Eagles overcame their miscues by hitting the offensive glass. The Eagles scored 26 second chance points en route to the 75-60 victory.

With the scored tied at 10, Alison Tobin converted a free throw to spark a short Eagle run. Dareon Henderson made a pair of jump shots around a Chelsey Watkins free throw to end the 6-0 run. Coming out of a timeout six and a half minutes left in the first half, Mariah Hill made a layup and got fouled. She made the free throw to complete the old fashioned three-point play. On the Eagles' next possession she connected from three-point range to put Edgewood College up 24-14 with just under six minutes left in the first half.

After Melissa Wellnitz nailed a jump shot, Hill made a pair from the free throw line to give the Eagles (1-3, 1-1 NAC) their largest lead of the first half, 28-16. Maranatha Baptist (1-1, 0-1 NAC) then went on a 10-2 run, and Kelli Steward made the score 30-26 when she hit a jump shot with 54 seconds left. Melanie Walker sank a couple from the charity stripe and Hill made a layup with one second left to give the Eagles a 36-26 lead at halftime.

Half way through the second half, the Eagles pulled away from the Crusaders with a 6-0 spurt. Wellnitz drained a jump shot before Tobin made two free throws and a jumper in the paint to put the Eagles up 61-44. The lead swelled to 20 points when Watkins nailed a three-point basket before the Crusaders cut into the deficit.

The Crusaders' Adrianne Reynolds made a three-point basket with 2:15 remaining to cut the deficit to 12, but the Eagles only allowed one more Crusader point the rest of the way to seal the 75-60 win.

Hill and Tobin led the Eagles with 15 points apiece, with Hill scoring 12 points in the first half and Tobin pouring in a dozen in the second stanza. Tobin also grabbed game-high 10 rebounds for a double-double. That marks Tobin's first double-double of the season and fifth of her career. Walker handed out eight assists to lead the Eagles and set a new career-high.

Edgewood College grabbed 53 rebounds, 22 on the offensive end while the Crusaders snared 35 boards. The Eagles also turned in their best shooting performance of the season, 41.8 percent (28-for-67).

The Eagles will be in action again on Saturday when they travel to face Concordia University Chicago. Tip off from River Forest is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Concordia Chicago will provide both live video and live stats for the Northern Athletics Conference matchup.
