Reading, Pa. (Nov. 28, 2011) - Alvernia University (3-1) held Rowan University (2-3) to 27 second half points and hit 25 out of 29 free throws in a 69-59 win Monday evening in non-conference women's basketball action at the Physical Education Center.

The Crusaders put five players in double figures led by seniors Allie Toczylowski (Mantua, N.J./Clearview Regional) and Cece Buzzard (Willow Street, Pa./Solanco) and freshman Kaitlyn Yoh (Wernersville, Pa./Conrad Weiser) who each scored a dozen.  Kelli McIntyre (Orwigsburg, Pa./Blue Mountain) totaled 11 and Angela Altemose (Pottsville, Pa./Nativity BVM) added 10 points going 8-for-8 from the free throw line.

"When you make foul shots and you don't turn the ball over you can be in a lot of games," said Alvernia head coach Kevin Calabria.  "I think our second half tonight was indicative of that."

Alvernia found itself down four at the halftime break, 32-28 and outscored the Profs 41-27 in the second half.  Rowan hit the first bucket of the second half to push the lead to six, but the Crusaders rattled off a 16-2 run to go up eight.  Buzzard started the run with a corner 3--the only one she attempted on the night--and Toczylowski capped it with back-to-back buckets in the paint.

Rowan answered with a quick spurt to cut the gap to two points, 49-47, but another Crusader run--this one 13-1--put the game out of reach in the final minutes.

The Profs had four players reach double figures led by 14 points from Lauren Gregg on 6-for-13 shooting from the floor.  Alvernia easily won the turnover battle committing just 10 itself while forcing 22 from Rowan.
