ANGOLA, Ind. - Sydney Spragg (Reading, Mich./Reading) and the Trine University women's basketball team held Anderson (IN) University to just 32 points in a 69-32 win. The Thunder remain perfect on the season at 4-0.
Spragg, a junior, led the Thunder with a season-high 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting as the Thunder shot 28-for-61 from the floor. The Thunder shot 47 percent from the floor in the first half as they trailed by five early in the game. The Thunder rolled as they built a 39-16 lead at the half.
Trine again held the Ravens to just 16 points in the second half as they forced tough shots on the defensive end as Anderson was just 5-of-24 (21%) in the second half. The Thunder capitalized on 26 turnovers as turning them into 31 points as Trine made a season-high 17 steals.
Spragg contributed to the defensive effort as she grabbed five rebounds. Junior Haley Killingbeck (Poneto, Ind./Southern Wells) and freshman Sicily Boyce (Ashley, Ind./Prairie Heights) each added in 12 and 11 points respectively. Killingbeck had a game-high two blocks while Boyce added in six boards. Senior Danielle Senf (Blanchardville, Wis./Pecatonica) led the Thunder with a game-high seven assists and seven steals. Overall 10 different players scored for Trine.
The 32 points allowed by the Trine defense is the fewest they have allowed since holding Alma to just 33 on January 17, 2009.
Trine will open-up conference play when the host St. Mary's College on November 30 at 7:30 p.m.
