BOX SCORE
Reading, Pa. (Nov. 22, 2011) - Alvernia University (2-1) got a combined 39 points from the senior class in a 52-48 win over Cabrini College (1-2) Tuesday evening in non-conference women's basketball action at the Physical Education Center.
Senior forward Allie Toczylwoski (Mantua, N.J./Clearview Regional) scored a game-high 15 points and added team highs with three steals and two assists.
"That's a lot of minutes for Allie," said Alvernia head coach Kevin Calabriareferring to the 36 minutes on the floor. "But she's just so steady right now for us."
Senior center Angie Altemose (Pottsville, Pa./Nativity BVM) added 13 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
"Angie really has to carry us offensive," continued Calabria. "She got shut out in the first half then 13 in the second half. That's a monster second half. She's been playing very well for us."
Altemose hit all six of her free throw attempts on Tuesday. It was the second straight game she has done that and the second time she's been perfect from behind the arc. She hit 2-of-2 attempts against Frostburg State on Saturday then knocked down the only one she attempted Tuesday.
Senior Kelli McIntyre (Orwigsburg, Pa./Blue Mountain) finished with 11 points to round out the seniors' scoring.
"She took a couple bad shots," said Calabria of his senior shooter. "But she really hit a big one for us coming off the staggered screen to go back up four."
McIntyre missed a pair of shots during a 6-0 Cabrini run that cut an eight-point lead down to two, but with under three minutes to go in a one-possession game Calabria went right back to her.
"She hit that shot then looked right at me on the way by as if to say 'that one was for you'," said Calabria through a smile and a laugh.
Despite the timely shooting by McIntyre the Crusaders still needed a strong finish to hold off the Cavs. Toczylowski followed up a McIntyre miss with 16 seconds to play and freshman Mya Lobb (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg) hit two free throws with five seconds to go for the four-point final.
Alvernia will take a few days off for Thanksgiving and return to action Monday evening when they host Rowan University at 7:00 p.m.
