WAYNE, N.J. – The No. 4/4 William Paterson women's basketball team (4-0) opened up 20-point leads during both halves and was never threatened during a 74-63 victory against New Paltz (0-4) Nov. 22 at the Rec Center.

 

A 16-2 run turned a nine-point margin (13-4, 16:45) into a 23-point lead (29-6, 9:13) during the first half as the Pioneers held the Hawks without a field goal for more than six minutes.  WP's advantage grew to as many as 27 (40-13, 2:46), and the Pioneers entered the locker room with a 44-23 lead, led by sophomore guard Floriana Borova's (Cresskill, N.J./Cresskill) 15 points on 5-for-10 (.500) shooting.

 

William Paterson's largest lead of the second half was 28 points at 61-33 with 13:34 remaining before the Pioneers began to substitute liberally. 

 

Senior all-American forward April Smith (Barnegat, N.J./Southern Regional) led all players with 22 points, 11 rebounds and five blocked shots.  Borova finished with 19 tallies, six assists and four steals, and senior all-American guard BriAnna Lucas (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham) posted 14 points and three assists.  Junior guard Lindsey Callander (Branchburg, N.J./Somerville) added six boards and three assists for WP.

 

Shannan Walker paced New Paltz with 16 points, adding six rebounds, while Kaitlin Clifford chipped in 10 tallies.  Caitlin Irwin contributed seven points and a team-best seven rebounds.

 

William Paterson will visit Baruch Saturday, Nov. 26, at 2:00 p.m.
