(Pittsburgh, PA) – The Medaille College women's basketball team was looking for its second straight AMCC Tournament title and their fifth in six years but the La Roche College Redhawks had different plans as they displaced Medaille as Champions with a (62-54) victory over the Lady Mavs in the title game. It was a game that saw La Roche grab all of the critical rebounds and knock down the key shots en route to earning the NCAA Tournament automatic bid.
The Lady Mavs couldn't find their rhythm all game as the speedy Redhawk squad stymied many offensive opportunities. Seniors Amanda Sahhar (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) and Kacie Mills (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore East) were the only Lady Mavs to reach double figure as Sahhar led the team with (11) points while also grabbing (6) boards. Mills chipped in with (10) points and dished out (4) assists.
Coming off the bench to contribute for Medaille was freshman Joelle Pollak (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore East) who is working her way back into the lineup after recovering from a broken hand. She added (9) points, (9) rebounds and (2) assists. Junior Tanisha Travis (Rochester, NY/Fairport) pulled down a team high (10) rebounds in the tough loss.
The loss is just the second for any Medaille team in an AMCC Championship game, as Maverick teams were (11-1) in title games heading into this one. The Lady Mavs fall to (22-4) and will await their fate as they have a chance of earning an at large bid to the NCAA Tournament when the selections are announced on Monday (2/28) at 3:00pm.
