(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - Senior center Nicole Dickman (Park Hills, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) recorded her 20th career double-double with to lead the No. 1 ranked and No. 1 seed Thomas More College women's basketball team to a 66-55 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship Tournament championship game win over No. 19 ranked and No. 2 seed Saint Vincent College today (Saturday, February 26, 2011) at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the win, the Saints improve to 28-0 and earn the PAC's automatic bid the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament for a conference record fifth-straight season. The NCAA Division III Championships brackets will be announced on Monday (February 28) on the NCAA Championship Website (www.ncaa.com) at 3 p.m. With the loss, the Bearcats fall to 24-4.
Saint Vincent jumped out to a 7-2 lead with 16:58 to play in first half when Devin McGrath made a jumper. Thomas More answered with an 11-2 capped by a lay-up by sophomore forward/center Katie Kees (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mother of Mercy) at the 10:20 mark of the first half. Saint Vincent responded with a 6-1 run to take a 15-14 lead with 8:19 to play in the first half when McGrath made two free-throws. The Saints came right back with an 11-0 run to take a 25-15 lead when sophomore guard Allison Long (Hebron, Ky./Conner) converted an old fashion three-point play with 5:51 to play in the opening half. The Bearcats then put together a 6-2 run to cut the lead to 27-21 when Jordan Clinton made a three-pointer with 3:17 to play in the half. The Saints answered with a 9-0 run to extend the lead to 36-21 with 51-seconds to play in the first half when freshman guard Katie Kitchen (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) made a three-pointer. Saint Vincent closed the half on a 6-0 run to cut the lead to 36-27 at halftime when Maria Baroffio made a three-pointer with two-seconds to play in the half.
Saint Vincent opened the second half on a 5-0 run to cut the lead to 36-32 when Brittany Sedlock made a three-pointer at the 18:18 mark of the second half. The Saints answered with a 23-11 run capped by a free-throw by Dickman to extend the lead to 59-43 with 2:56 to play in the game. The Bearcats responded with a 10-3 run capped by a three-point play by Sedlock with 1:22 to play in the game to cut the lead to 62-53, but it wasn't enough as the Saint closed out the game on a 4-2 for the 66-55 victory.
Dickman had 11 points and a game-high 13 rebounds for her double-double. Joining her in double-figures were Kees with a career-high 13 points, sophomore guard Chelsea Tolliver (Morning View, Ky./Simon Kenton) with 11 and senior forward Amy Stultz (Amelia, Ohio/McNicholas) with 10. The Saints were led in assists by Long with four and steal by Kees with five.
