The No. 6-seed Oswego State women's basketball team held a halftime lead over No. 3-seed New Paltz on Tuesday night, but a decisive 21-3 Hawk run early in the second half proved to be insurmountable in a 69-54 Laker loss.  Senior Traci Bacon came off the bench to score a game-high 17 points for Oswego State, which ended the season with an overall record of 11-15.  New Paltz improved to 16-10 on the season.

Meagan Stover joined Bacon in double-digits with 15 points, while the Hawks kept Kayla Ryan in check with seven points, all of which came from the charity stripe.  Four New Paltz players scored at least ten points, including Caitlin Irwin and Shanay Bradley, who tallied 11 each, and Maliqua Fisher and Zoe Cohen, who added 10 each.  Bradley also pulled down 13 rebounds for the double-double.

The first half featured scoring runs for both teams, as the Hawks raced out to an early 10-0 lead before the Lakers answered right back with ten straight points to tie the game at 12 with 12:11 to play.  New Paltz scored the next seven points with Oswego State countering with another ten consecutive points to take a 22-19 lead.  Head coach Tracy Bruno's squad looked to be headed into the locker room with four-point lead, but Zoe Cohen made a layup before time expired to give the Lakers a 29-27 halftime edge.

With the score tied at 31 points apiece and 17:50 left on the scoreboard, the Hawks put together their pivotal 21-3 spurt to go ahead 50-34 with 11:09 to play.  Oswego State pulled to within 11 points and three minutes left following a trey by Jenna Rossi, but the Lakers would not get closer as New Paltz cruised to the win.

The Hawks controlled the paint, outscoring Oswego State 44-20 in the lane, and owning a 48-29 rebound advantage.  It was not a crisp game from either side as the squads combined to commit 49 turnovers.  New Paltz will face Oneonta in a SUNYAC Semifinal on Friday in Geneseo.
